Every year expert team of reviewers at The Times hand-pick the best hotels in the UK that are worthy of a weekend break.

This year 50 hotels across the UK have been chosen as the 'best places to stay'. Hotels from every region have made the list, and there is only one hotel in the West Midlands to have made a mark.

The Times says: "This year’s list celebrates the very best new hotels as well as old favourites with something fresh to say".

The hotel in the West Midlands that has been named as one of the 'top 50 places to stay in the UK' this year is Hampton Manor located in Hampton in Arden, Solihull.

The hotel was reviewed by Mike Atkins, Senior Commissioning Editor at The Times, who gave the site an overall score of 8/10.

Hampton Manor is a five-star hotel located on a 45 acre estate, set around a walled garden and boasting 24 bedrooms.

Hampton-in-Arden Train station is a short stroll from the Manor and has regular trains to Birmingham International station and Birmingham New Street.

This means you are in close proximity to the likes of Birmingham Airport, the LG Arena, Resorts World, the NEC, Grand Central, The NIA, The Bullring, The Mailbox and Birmingham’s vibrant dining scene.

It is also ideally positioned for visiting Solihull, Stratford and Warwick - making it a perfect location to explore Shakespeare’s England.

It was originally built in 1855 as a private Victorian Gothic mansion for Sir Frederick Peel, son of the 19th-century Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel.

Later, it served as a residential care home for adults with learning difficulties until 2007, before being transformed into a luxury hotel and dining destination.

The hotel is home to two award wining restaurants including one being Michelin-starred.

Mr Atkins, from The Times, calls the hotel "a grand retreat just outside Birmingham" that "teases the kind of lifestyle one could get used to".

He nods to the fact that the hotel boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant Grace & Savour that was awarded the accolade in 2023, only a year after opening.

He does add however that the tasting menu costs £175 and "is the only dinner option here".

The second restaurant, Kynd, is a "more homely experience" with "flavour-packed dishes", Mr Atkins says.

Google reviews of the hotel are also full of praise with the majority ranking the site as a 5/5. One user who stayed at the hotel in March said: "I was lucky enough to spend an evening here, after a long flight.

"The Manor is breathtaking as we drove up. The surroundings open up to present a magnificent building.

"We received a welcome drink and a delicious taste if the workd class food that is served here. We stayed in the Shingler building and the room was simply perfect.

"The large bath in the room was so relaxing before the most comfortable nights rest I'd ever had."

Room-only doubles at the hotel price from £140 and three courses at the Kynd restaurant start from £85.
