'Major disruption': One lane of four closed and heavy delays reported following M6 multi-vehicle crash between Walsall and Birmingham

Roads authority, West Midlands Roads, has warned to 'plan ahead' following a crash on the M6 Southbound between Junction 7 (Great Barr / Walsall) and Junction 6 (Birmingham and the A38).

The issues, which were initially reported by West Midlands Roads at 4.44pm, relate to a crash on the motorway, with delays reaching back through Junction 8 (M5 link), and more than seven miles of congestion.

A West Midlands Roads spokesperson said: "M6 southbound, Junction 7 (Great Barr, Walsall, A34) to Junction 6 (Birmingham, A38).

"Road traffic collision. Delays back through Junction 8 (M5 link).

"Plan Ahead. Major Disruption."

West Midlands Roads have reported that one lane of four has been closed due to the incident, with delays being reported on approach and traffic reaching back towards Junction 10 for Walsall and Wolverhampton.

National Highways West Midlands have confirmed that 30-minute delays are being experienced on the approach to the incident, with all emergency services being on the scene. 

A National Highways West Midlands spokesperson said: "Lanes one and two of the M6 between Junction 6 and Junction 7 are closed following a collision.

"Traffic officers and recovery agents are working at the scene to clear the vehicles involved. There are delays of up to 30 minutes on approach."

West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed that one ambulance has responded to the incident at 4.14pm.

The incident cleared at around 6.20pm (March 6).
