Two teenagers seriously injured after being 'deliberately' knocked off electric bike near West Bromwich school

Two teenagers have been left with serious injuries following a crash near a school in West Bromwich.

West Midlands Police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched after two teenagers were knocked off an electric bike in Clarkes Lane, West Bromwich, yesterday afternoon. 

Emergency services were called to the lane, near Phoenix Collegiate, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Two teenagers, both male, aged 18 and 16, were confirmed to be the rider and passenger of the bike, and were left with injuries that were described as 'life-changing'.

West Midlands Police has launched an appeal for information following the crash, asking anyone with information to contact them directly via their 101 number, quoting reference 20/166729/26. 

A force spokesperson said: "We are investigating after two teenagers were believed to be deliberately knocked off an electric bike in West Bromwich by a car.

"We were called to Clarkes Lane shortly before 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. Two teenagers, both male, aged 18 and 16, were taken to hospital with injuries described as potentially life-changing."

Two ambulances, a MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic attended the scene, where on arrival they found the two male patients who were said to be the driver and passenger of a bike. 

Both were assessed for serious injuries, receiving advanced trauma care at the scene before being conveyed to the hospital for further treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 4.25pm on Tuesday to a road traffic collision involving a car and a bike on Clarkes Lane, West Bromwich. Two ambulances and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene. 

"Upon arrival, we found two male patients who were the driver and passenger on the bike. 

"Both were assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained serious injuries. They received advanced trauma care at the scene before being conveyed to the hospital for further treatment. No further patients required treatment."

Photos taken at the scene show a large cordon in place around the area of the incident, with buses being diverted away from the scene at the time.

A resident of the road, who does not wish to be named, has sent ring doorbell footage to the Express & Star, which shows two young people riding an electric bike only moments prior to the crash taking place.

Phoenix Collegiate has confirmed that they remain open as normal today.
