Walsall murder trial: How violence on street unfolded which led to death of 22-year-old man

No reason was given by the perpetrators for the violent confrontation in a Walsall street which resulted in the death of 22-year-old Mohammed Khan.

He was stabbed, stomped on and kicked during fighting in Bloxwich Road near Leamore, Walsall, at around 5.15pm on Monday, March 17 after arriving in the area carrying a combat knife in one hand and a machete in the other.

On Wednesday at Wolverhampton Crown Court following a long-running trial the jury found Zain Raja, aged 22,  of Harden Road, Harden;  Asad Iftakhar, Hassan Iftakhar, both aged 33, of Bloxwich Road guilty of his murder in unanimous verdicts.

 Amaan Khan, also aged 22 and also of Harden Road, was found guilty of Mr Khan's manslaughter by a majority verdict of 10-2.

West Midlands Police has not been able to discover the cause of the dispute involving several men, but in the melee that followed Mr Khan was somehow disarmed and suffered 30 injuries including a stab wound to the body which caused his death along with a cut to the neck, a chop wound to the head and bruising consistent with punching and kicking. 

The seven-week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that the violence flared near the junction with Northumberland Way in view of stunned residents and passing motorists.
