Appeal to find e-bike as investigation into man's death in Wolverhampton continues

Investigators working to establish exactly what happened to a man who died after being found injured in school grounds in Wolverhampton, are appealing for help to find the e-bike he was riding in the hours before his death.

Neil Thompson, who was known as Chuck, was  pronounced dead on the grounds of Smestow Academy in Windmill Crescent on Monday, 19 January.

It is understood that he had been riding the e-bike from the Aldersley area along the Smestow Canal path on the outskirts of the city.

Detective Inspector Joe Davenport of West Midlands Police , who is heading up enquiries, said: "We are continuing to treat Mr Thompson's death as unexplained but extensive investigations are continuing as we work to find the answers his family deserve.

"The information we have does point, at this stage, to this as being an accident. However we want to be able to further establish this by locating the e-bike he had been seen riding in the hours before he died.

"Thorough searches of the surrounding area and a significant CCTV trawl have as yet been unable to pinpoint what happened to that bike and we're appealing for anyone who has found a bike to contact us.

"We would ask anyone who has any information about it to come forward and help us bring this investigation to a conclusion and bring some answers for Mr Thompson's family."

Mr Thompson was seen on Wheatsheaf Road, Wolverhampton, at 1am on 19 January and was then sighted on the school grounds at 7.15am.

He was last seen wearing a distinctive camouflage jacket, grey gilet, jeans, and a beanie hat. He was also carrying a red rucksack and may have been wearing sunglasses.

The e-bike, pictured above, is described as a Carrera Crossfire E Men’s Electric Hybrid Bike 2.0 - L Frame.
