Although no serious concerns were identified, the two schools will remain closed today (Wednesday) as a precaution and as investigation work is carried out.

A spokesperson for Wolverhampton City Council confirmed they would be on site today whilst they investigate what is believed to be a technical issue with the pool.

They said: "Green Park School was closed to pupils and staff yesterday (Tuesday) following the detection of an unusual odour in the vicinity of the hydrotherapy pool.

"Staff responded promptly with the health and wellbeing of children and staff the school's top priority.

"As a precaution, paramedics were called to assess a small number of individuals who reported feeling nauseous.

"No serious concerns were identified, and the school would like to express its gratitude to emergency services personnel for their support and advice.

"Representatives from our emergency planning, health and safety and city assets team also attended to provide help, advice and support.

“An investigation is now underway to determine the source of the odour, which is currently believed to be associated with a mechanical issue, and to carry out any remedial work which may be necessary. No chemical incident was identified.

"Both Green Park and Stowlawn will remain closed today (Wednesday) while checks are carried out by council staff, and the schools will update families on plans to reopen once the issue is resolved."

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, who sent crews from Bilston, Willenhall and Wolverhampton yesterday to carry out testing, said they had no plans to be on site today.
