Beth’s Sunflowers chosen as Kingswinford garden centre's charity of the year
A Kingswinford garden centre has chosen local blood cancer charity Beth’s Sunflowers as its charity of the year.
Ashwood Nurseries has chosen the Kingswinford-based charity to support throughout 2026 through the Ashwood Charitable Trust.

All funds raised through business owner John Massey’s garden open days, donations, and other contributions at Ashwood Nurseries, located at Ashwood near Kingswinford, are directed through the trust - a non-profit organisation - which then donates to its chosen charities.
Beth’s Sunflowers, set up in memory of Beth Childs who died of leukaemia aged just 20 in 2018, was chosen due to its close proximity to Ashwood Nurseries and John’s Garden and the charity’s commitment to supporting local blood cancer patients.
The two organisations also share a strong connection to horticulture with sunflower themed gardens created by Andrea Childs of Beth’s Sunflowers having won awards at the BBC Gardeners’ World show at the NEC.
Andrea, who founded the charity to keep the memory of her daughter alive, will be working with John’s Garden and the team at Ashwood Nurseries throughout 2026 to organise sunflower-themed growing events for children and other fundraising activities.
John Massey’s garden at Ashwood Nurseries, known for its exceptional plant collection and regarded as one of the finest private gardens in the UK, has been showcased on TV and in gardening publications numerous times.
John opens his garden located in Ashwood Lower Lane every Saturday from early February through to December, from 10 am to 4pm.
