Walsall man, 44, charged with 10 shoplifting offences across the Black Country and Staffordshire

Police have charged a man from Walsall with stealing from shops in four Black Country neighbourhoods.

Lee Mason, 44, from Walsall, has been charged with 10 offences of shop theft after items were taken from the shelves in Bloxwich, Walsall, Wednesbury and Cannock

It comes after West Midlands Police arrested Mason in connection with incidents of stealing from stores in Bloxwich, Walsall and Wednesbury between June and September of this year.

The 44-year-old was also later charged in relation to an additional theft in Cannock in April. 

He appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court last week and is due to appear there again on Friday, ahead of an expected trial in November.

A force spokesperson said: "We know the impact of shop theft on businesses and our communities.

"We’re catching hundreds more suspected shop thieves in the West Midlands as we continue to take action.

"Arrests for shop theft offences have risen over 60% in the last two years as we’ve improved the way we respond to crime reports."
