The state-of-the-art facility aims to change the way waste is managed in Walsall by reducing landfill and increasing recycling rates.

An opening date is expected to be announced soon for the new centre which Walsall Council says will "serve Walsall people for years to come".

The site, on Middlemore Lane, is capable of handling up to 40,000 tonnes of waste annually across 19 bays, each housing two skips. A reuse shop with a workshop will also operate on-site, where staff will refurbish safe, usable items for low-cost resale.

The development of the facility has also seen more than £1 million worth of social value created through jobs, apprenticeships, carbon savings and community initiatives - the council said.
