Crash cleared near Walsall after road closed in both directions and two people 'assessed for injuries'

A road near Walsall was closed in due to a crash on a main road between the town centre and Lichfield resulting in major disruption.

The collision happened on the A461 Walsall Road at the junction with Boatman's Lane, near High Street, in Walsall Wood on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash involved a red Hyundai and a van, with emergency services saying that two people were being assessed for injuries.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called to an RTC on High Street, Walsall Wood after receiving a 999 call reporting a two car RTC at 2.05pm today. 

"Two patients were assessed before being discharged on scene."

Images from the scene show the vehicles, which had sustained damage due to the crash, with heavy traffic being seen around the area.

West Midlands Roads warned of heavy disruption at the time of the crash, advising commuters to 'plan ahead'.

West Midlands Road tweeted on the X platform: "Walsall A461 Walsall Road near Boatman's Lane junction Road traffic collision Road blocked in both directions.

"Plan Ahead: Allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible." 



The incident has since cleared.

West Midlands Police have been approached for more information.
