Man, 33, arrested on suspicion of multiple knifepoint robberies at West Midlands shops

It comes following a number of knifepoint robberies at shops around the West Midlands.

West Midlands Police have arrested a man on suspicion of committing multiple knifepoint robberies at shops and supermarkets across Walsall, Sandwell, Wolverhampton and Birmingham

Officers arrested the 33-year-old on suspicion of seven robberies across the Black Country and Birmingham areas between August 2 and August 23.

The robberies were carried out at shops and supermarkets across the region, including Darlaston, Wednesbury, Tipton, Smethwick, Wolverhampton and Druids Heath.

During the robberies, goods, including alcohol, were stolen, and staff were threatened with a knife.

The 33-year-old remains in custody as they continue with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Kate Tromans, from the Walsall LPA, said: "These were serious offences which could have resulted in significant harm to members of the public and staff.

"As part of a joint operation with Walsall, Sandwell and Wolverhampton, we were able to identify a suspect who was arrested by Walsall officers this morning."

West Midlands Police added that reducing robbery offences remains a 'force priority'.
