Revealed: Wolverhampton's worst road for speeding offences - and two of them are twice in the top five

Wolverhampton’s 20 worst roads for speeding offences, accounting for nearly 8,000 incidents between them, have been revealed in new data.

Car accident claim firm Legal Expert made an FOI request to West Midlands Police and learned that 140 roads across the region were the site of 106,719 offences in the year ending March 2025.

Of those, 7,777 occurred on just 20 roads in the Wolverhampton area – with that total dominated by just two of them.

But only 991 Fixed Penalty Notices were handed out by the force on those 20 road and 19,219 as a whole across the region.

Wolverhampton’s speeding hotspot was the section of the A444 heading southbound towards Moxley Junction. It was the site of 3,549 offences, which works out at around 10 offences per day on average.

Behind it was the A449 Stafford Road, where 2,115 drivers couldn’t stick to the speed limit when approaching Greenwood Road.

The pair accounted for almost three quarters of offences recorded among the top 20 roads.

A long way off in third was another section of Stafford Road. As 534 drivers approached Oxley Avenue, they fell foul of the local speed limit.

The force also revealed the five worst speeding offenders in the region. Three of the worst offences were on the M42.

Topping the list was a driver clocked at 143mph going northbound between junctions 3a and 4 in March this year–more than double the 70mph speed limit.
