Teenager, 16, charged with knife offences following police foot chase in Walsall

The boy is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court later this month.

West Midlands Police have announced that a 16-year-old boy has been charged with knife offences after being stopped in Walsall.

The boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, was arrested after attempting to run from officers of St Matthew's neighbourhood officers shortly after 8pm on Monday.

Officers chase the youth along Little Station Street before bringing him to a stop, and during a search, they discovered a machete and a knife.

The boy will now appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on August 20 for a first hearing, and is charged with possessing a knife in a public place and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "St Matthew’s neighbourhood officers arrested a boy shortly after 8pm on Monday at Little Station Street in Walsall following a foot chase. A machete and a knife were recovered.

"Neighbourhood officers in Walsall carry out regular patrols in the town centre and are supported by Op Guardian officers who tackle serious youth violence and knife crime."

"The Op Guardian team aims to reduce violent crime with a focus on reducing knife crime in young people. The team also actively engages with the public to raise awareness of knife crime."
