The lucky female player, who has not been named publicly, was marking numbers at Bilston's Mecca Bingo in Springvale Way Retail Park on July 24 when she won.

The mystery winner called "house" 14 numbers to trigger the huge National Bingo Game jackpot. The jackpot is activated when a player matches all the numbers on their ticket within the first 16 numbers being called out.

Mecca Bilston caller Billy Slater was on duty when the woman won. Mr Slater explained:  “I started the game and I heard someone shout. I looked at my screen and could see that only 14 numbers had been called, so I knew it meant that the jackpot had been triggered and I immediately started shaking.

“Once I’d checked the claim to confirm it was correct, I shouted at the top of my voice ‘One lucky winner takes away £50,000'. Everyone was shouting with excitement and the winner started crying.

I felt really overwhelmed for her. I spoke to her a few days later and she still sounded shocked.

“I’ve been at Mecca for four years, but I’ve only been calling for 18 months. It’s not every day that we get to tell someone that they’ve won that amount of money, so it was a really brilliant moment.  I really love calling - switching on the mic and entertaining our customers. There’s a great atmosphere here and if anyone is having a bad day and arrives feeling a bit down, I enjoy cheering them up.”

The winner is a regular customer at the venue.

In February a woman was left speechless when she won the £53,000 jackpot while playing at Oldbury's Mecca Bingo branch in Halesowen Street in Oldbury.
