Wolverhampton's Smyths Toy Superstore, on Bilston Road, Wolverhampton, is hosting a Beyblade competition as part of a national competition where winners can go to Japan.

Beyblade, a popular kids' game, sees youngsters face off with mechanical spinning tops and is based on a popular Japanese animation and manga series.

The competition, which takes place on Saturday, July 19, will see 'Beybladers' between the ages of eight and 12 compete at Smyths Toy Superstores across the UK with a chance of taking part in a two-day battle at Japan's Tokyo Tower.

Every Smyths store is set to take part in the event, with each store featuring 32 competitor slots.

Winners from the local tournaments will qualify for a UK final, with the overall UK winner then going on to represent the nation in Tokyo, Japan.

A Smyths Toy Superstore spokesperson said: "What started over 20 years ago, inspired by the Japanese spinning top game 'Beigoma,' is now much more than a toy. Beyblade is a global pop culture phenomenon with cross-generational fandom.

"This year, Bey-fans can compete to become the BEYBLADE world champion! The BEYBLADE X World Championship 2025 is an international competition where the winners of regional tournaments across the world compete to become the top Blader."

As well as Wolverhampton, the event is also taking place at the Walsall store in Crown Warf Retail Park, the Oldbury store in Green Retail Park, and the Tamworth store in Ventura Retail Park.
