Police officers reunite Charlie the parrot with owner during busy day of neighbourhood policing in Walsall
Police teams in Walsall have been busy over the last week carrying out high-visibility patrols, hosting surgeries and even reuniting an African grey parrot with its owner after it escaped.
Charlie the parrot had ruffled a few feathers after escaping from his home in the Pleck area of the town last weekend.
His distraught owner contacted West Midlands Police and, after making enquiries, Pleck neighbourhood officers including PC Amanda Wilson and PCSO Ade Hartland team winged it over to an address in the town where he was handed back to officers.
PCSO Hartland said: “The owner was absolutely delighted to have Charlie returned to her.
"He is a real companion for her and when he escaped she was so upset.
"She contacted us and PC Wilson made some enquiries enabling us to track him down to an address where he had been taken in.
"He was handed back to us and we were delighted to take Charlie back to his home to be reunited with her.”
The teams were also busy engaging with the communities across Walsall.
The St Matthews’s team spent a morning at the Mandir Baba Balak Nath in Walsall where they hosted a police surgery and also conducted a pop-up surgery at the Halifax Bank in Walsall.
A spokesman for the St Matthew's Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Our teams would like to thank staff members and the community for taking the time to come and chat to us."

Blakenall neighbourhood officers were out patrolling the area and also looked to address concerns raised around parking in and around Rivers Academy in Blakenall.
The Bloxwich team carried out high-visibility patrols on canal towpaths as well as Reedswood Retail Park and also teamed up with Street Watch volunteers for a high visibility patrol on the Turnberry Estate and King George V Park.
Willenhall officers visited the Khalsa Panth Academy in Darlaston to speak to students and PCSO’s Zaheda Mulla and Sukinder Lally attended the summer fair at St Stephen’s Church.
PC Deb Ashley and PCSO Lally also attended New Invention Academy to speak to Year Six pupils, with the officers commenting on how engaged the children were.
The Darlaston team carried out patrols in off-road bike hotspot areas.
Neighbourhood officers in Brownhills carried out patrols across Rushall, Shelfield, High Heath and Pelsall tackling anti-social behaviour and West Midlands Police said that officers will continue to target hotspot locations as schools break up for the summer holidays.
