In two separate incidents Wez and Jack found a suspect with a knife hiding in some bushes in Walsall and recovered stolen property in Dudley.

Just before 1am on Thursday (July 10), officers in Walsall attempted to pull over a car suspected of having drugs on board.

The driver failed to stop and was driving at dangerous speeds along residential roads before the car’s tyre popped on Poppy Drive and the driver fled the vehicle.

PD Jack and his handler set about searching for the suspect before being directed to his hiding place by the West Midlands Police Drones Team.

The teenager was found in some bushes, pretending to be asleep, when found by PD Jack. A knife was also recovered from the scene.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, possession of an offensive weapon and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. They remain in police custody.

In Dudley, PD Wez and his handler were directed to Sedgley Road West following reports of a burglary in progress, where they found several suspected stolen items including an iPad and a balaclava. Investigations are ongoing to find those responsible.

Inspector Rachel Crump from the West Midlands Police Dog Unit said: “Our dogs play a crucial part of policing the West Midlands. Whether that’s with other units such as Drones and Firearms or on their own. They always get results.

“They have been working overnight to keep our streets safe and catch those that are committing crime. PDs Wez and Jack and their handlers will be enjoying a well-earned rest today.”
