Man in court after Wolverhampton shop worker threatened with a knife
A man has been charged following a series of thefts and robberies from a store in Wolverhampton city centre.
Steven Baker, 46, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, two counts of possession of a knife and two counts of theft from a shop after an incident in Wolverhampton on June 30.
The incident saw Baker detained by West Midlands Police on Chesterton Road yesterday in connection with an incident at the One Stop store on Prestwood Road, where a member of staff was threatened with a knife and stock was stolen.
The arrests formed part of West Midlands Police's work to tackle retail crime, as well as make the streets safer.
In another arrest, a 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and possession of Class A and Class B drugs. He was given a conditional police caution and given bail pending further enquiries relating to the handling of stolen goods.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We are working to reduce robbery and knife-related crime across the region with dedicated officers on our Project Guardian teams patrolling and carrying out operations in areas where we know there are increased reports of knife-related activity."
Baker appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning (July 9).
