West Midlands Police has put a section 60 (stop and search) order in place in a large area of West Bromwich following disorder in the town.

The disorder took place on the evening of June 4 and June 5. Six people have been arrested so far and a number of weapons recovered.

The order gives police the ability to stop and search people without "reasonable grounds".

Chief Inspector Richard Boulter, of West Bromwich Police, said: “We don’t use these powers lightly, but we will use all our powers to ensure the safety of people in the area.

"We will have increased patrols and uniformed officers in the area today and over the coming days to offer reassurance.”

The order came into effect this morning (June 6) and is expected to be in place until 10pm tonight.

West Midlands Police has been approached for more information.
