Watch: Film crews spotted in Wolverhampton city centre for new drama series featuring Harry Potter star
It is lights, camera, action in Wolverhampton city centre where film crews have been spotted at the former Express & Star offices.
The Queen Street building is being used for filming as part of Channel 5's new crime drama 'Murder Before Evensong', which is based on Rev. Richard Coles’ best-selling novel.
Matthew Lewis, who is best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, is among the stars on the cast list for the new programme.
The Channel 5 and AMC Networks’ Acorn TV production is being filmed across the West Midlands over 13 weeks, including several days at the former Express & Star offices.
A source said film crews from The Lighthouse Film and Television would be in the building between Monday and Thursday, with filming set to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday (January 28), a sign could be seen on the approach to Queen Street which read: "Caution: filming in progress. The producers and crew would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during the preparation/filming of this production.
"We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for your patience."
Camera equipment, actors and filming crews could also be spotted, while a sign for the 'Braunstonbury Gazette' and prop posters of newspaper front pages could be seen at one of the entrances to the site.
It is however not the first time the former offices have been the backdrop for television programmes since the newspaper moved out of the building in December 2023.
In October last year, it was transformed into the 'European Sovereign Bank' as production crews were spotted in and around Queen Street for what is believed to be a new BBC horror feature called 'Retreat'.
Elsewhere in the region, film crews joined by actor Cillian Murphy were spotted at Bumble Hole Nature Reserve in Netherton in November for the new Peaky Blinders movie, which is set for release either later this year or early in 2026.
