Teenager treated for gunshot wound after police seal off scene of shooting incident

A teenager has been treated for a bullet wound after police were called to reports of gunfire on a Birmingham street.

Armed police were called to the scene at the junction of Abbey Street and Park Road in Hockley at around 3.30pm on Friday. Twenty minutes later a 19-year-old man attended hospital with a gunshot wound in his arm.

The scene remained sealed off by a large cordon for much of Friday, with a number of police vehicles at the scene, including marked vans and cars, as well as a number of officers.

A fingertip search was conducted looking for evidence.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report at around 3.30am today from a member of the public reporting what they believed was the sound of a gunshots in Abbey Street North.

"Armed police arrived and carried out a search of the area which remains sealed off.

"At 3.50am a 19-year-old man attended hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.

"We are currently keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called by police at 3.48am today following reports of disorder on Abbey Street.

"Police then told us to stand down as we were not needed."
