Tragedy of pensioner who died on wedding trip to India
A pensioner died of a heart attack while on a trip to India to buy items for his son's upcoming wedding.
Anand Prakash Kaila was on holiday in New Dehli in March last year when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
An inquest held at Cannock Coroner's Court on February 17, heard that the 71-year-old from Borrowcop Lane, Silver Birches, Lichfield, collapsed at the hotel where he and his wife were staying. The couple, who had been married 43 years, travelled out to India on March 9 and were due to return on March 19.
A statement by Mrs Swaran Lata Kalia was read to the court which explained that on March 16 she and her husband had been wedding shopping and visited family. After returning to the hotel, Mr Kalia had complained that the room did not have enough fresh air and he was having difficulty breathing.
His wife rushed to find the hotel manager who offered to drive his guests to the Moolchand Hospital, Nagar, New Dehli. The court heard how on the 15 minute drive Mr Kalia became unresponsive and was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
Senior coroner for Staffordshire South, Andrew Haigh, did not receive an official cause of death from the Indian authorities and said a toxicology report could take 'a number of years.'
Mr Haigh said: "The whole sequence appears to be consistent with a heart attack. I have heard that Mr Kalia had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. This was a natural death."
