West Bromwich van driver seriously injured in crash which killed passenger on M5

Police are appealing for information after a van driver from West Bromwich was seriously injured and another man died in  a collision on the M5.

The two men were travelling along the M5 northbound on Thursday night, when their white Sprinter Box Van was in collision with an HGV about half a mile south of Junction 8 for the M50.

Police said the front seat passenger of the box van, aged 29, and from the Derby area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver, from the West Bromwich area, was taken to hospital in Birmingham, suffering from serious injuries.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured. The northbound lane was closed for around seven hours following the collision, at 6.40pm.

Gloucestershire Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them on 101 quoting Incident 445 of 6/11/14.
