Paramedics Simon Hunt, 54, and Matthew Geary, 36, and A&E nurse Lisa Cooper, 45, are each charged with failing to discharge their duty in that they did not provide prompt and appropriate medical assistance to 47-year-old Carl Cope.

Mr Cope, of Parker Street, Bloxwich, died of a heart attack on the hospital's premises on June 23, 2012.

Hunt, of Holden Crescent, Walsall; Geary, of Manor Avenue, Great Wyrley; and Cooper, of Spindle Tree Rise, Willenhall, were bailed at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday to return on September 19 for a plea and direction hearing.

A trial date has been provisionally set for January 5 next year.

It is thought that Mr Cope was admitted to the hospital in Pleck Road earlier in the day with chest pains and collapsed when he momentarily stepped outside.

Investigations were launched by both the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and West Midlands Service NHS Trust following the incident.

Four Walsall Manor workers were sacked over the death. A paramedic was also dismissed, one resigned and an emergency medical technician and emergency care assistant were both given final written warnings.
