The event has been hailed a success, despite the number of visitors being lower than expected. Organisers said their hopes of attracting 70,000 people were dashed by poor weather.

Richard Williams, Chief Executive of the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society said: "We are pleased with the way the show went. All the stands were very busy and we had a fantastic show of livestock."

Crowds flocked to the event at the County Showground in Stafford. Show spokesman Philip Thurlow-Craig said: "Our previous attendance record is more than 70,000 but that was on two hot, sunny days. If the weather was better I'm sure we would have approached that."
