Jailed newsman Ashley Blake will return to TV in Birmingham
Jailed former BBC Midlands Today presenter Ashley Blake is set to restart his television career, it has emerged, as a presenter with City TV in Birmingham.
Blake is on the brink of restarting his broadcasting career four years after he was released from a two-year sentence for wounding a teenager with a wooden pole outside his former Sutton Coldfield restaurant.
Now 44, Blake said the launch of City TV, set for this September, would be a 'new and different opportunity'. He said: "I never thought that my career was over or that Ashley Blake was finished."
Blake was jailed for two years at Birmingham Crown Court in September 2009 for unlawful wounding and attempting to pervert the course of justice. It followed a night of violence at his Thai restaurant The Place 2B in Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield, in the early hours of January 25, 2009.
The restaurant was being used for an 18th birthday party and on the night Blake hit 17-year-old Greg Jones around the face with a patio umbrella pole.
