A total of 2,900 properties were affected when power supplies were lost in the Rowley Park area.
Electricity firm Western Power Distribution said the cause of the problem was unknown.
But the company carried out a rolling restoration of power supplies, with 476 properties having their power returned within four minutes of the disruption.
Spokesman for Western Power Distribution Jim Greaves said the rest were back within the hour except for one factory.
The power cut hit at around 4pm yesterday.
