The Aldridge teenager was presented with the accolade by Prince Edward at Bath University in his first duty as the institution's new chancellor.

The 18-year-old Paralympian said: "I feel really honoured to get an honorary degree, it was quite a shock to be asked really, but of course I said I would love to.

"It is great to have this award at this age and hopefully I will go on to university myself one day. I am still doing my A-levels at the moment."

Ellie said the prince had congratulated her as he handed over the degree, in front of the hundreds of guests in Bath Abbey.

She added that she felt it was particularly appropriate to receive an honorary degree from Bath because of its sporting reputation.

"Bath is a lovely city, really historic and I would love to come back and visit it properly."
