Body of woman is found by Stafford town centre road
A woman's body has been discovered in marshland on the side of a busy road in Stafford town centre today.
Police officers made the discovery in the early hours of the morning on land near Asda on the A34 Ringway.
A stretch of the road was closed just after 3am while emergency services worked at the scene.
The woman has yet to be formally identified.
At this time her death is being treated as unexplained but police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death. An investigation into the tragedy is now under way.
The road was re-opened just before 8am this morning. A post mortem is expected to be carried out later today.
The 24-hour Asda on Queensway was open as normal despite the disruption.
Staff turning up to the supermarket for an early shift today said they were unaware of the grim discovery.
