The school, which has been renamed Alexandra College of Enterprise, has benefitted from a complete redevelopment of the original school building off Alexandra Road.

It is now home to two drama studios, a new library, new kitchen, a new cafe area plus classooms for history, geography, foreign language and English.

In addition to the £23m spent on building work, an extra £2.5m has seen wi-fi internet introduced across the site and every pupil issued with their own netbook computer.

"We're absolutely delighted with the completion of the second phase of work," said deputy headteacher David Russell.

"The pupils can't believe how much the old building has changed. I think a lot of them thought it would just be a lick of paint. It really is brilliant."

The improvements have been made possible thanks to Building Schools for the Future funding.
