Luke Walker has spent two years on the island waiting for a trial.

Walker, accused over the death of Chelsea Hyndman, told how pleased he was that a judge had today ruled he could stay with his family in Brierley Hill.

The 24-year-old's trial was due to begin today but was adjourned after key prosecution witnesses were not called to Heraklion Mixed Criminal Court.

He said it was the "best outcome so far". He said: "I expected the trial to go ahead today – I thought this would be it now. I haven't even thought about what I'll do when I get home.

"I'm actually feeling a bit scared about it. All I want to do is clear my name.

"It's been a nightmare; horrible. Work has been difficult, I can't get jobs.

"But my family and friends have been amazing and really supported me."

His parents, who have been splitting their time between Crete and England, said they were surprised.

Father Patrick said:?"I'm just so glad he's going home. But to know it's not over and we still have the trial to come is hard."
