Half-starved pup had to be put down
An eight-month-old puppy had to be put down after its owners failed to feed it properly for two months, a court heard.
RSPCA officers found Rambo, a dogue de bordeaux, in the Wolverhampton back garden of Gurmej Singh, aged 43, and his wife Satnam Kaur, 33.
The puppy was underweight and covered in sores, Wolverhampton magistrates heard yesterday. Mr Roger Price, prosecuting on behalf of the RSPCA, said that police visited the home, in Mount Lane, Lanesfield, last November on a separate matter.
He said: "Officers were taken to the back garden. The officer said she thought the stench was associated with something deceased."
The RSPCA found the dog was 2st underweight and had lost fur on 90 per cent of its body.
Mr Price said the puppy had not been properly fed in two months, according to a vet.
Mr Mandeep Bassi, defending, said:? "They attended veterinary clinics at least three times and had a ceremony at a local temple for the dog to get better." The coupled both admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and were bailed until October 31 for a pre-sentence report.
Magistrate Stephen Russell warned them they could face jail.
