Torrential rain has forced an event that was expected to attract hundreds of Mini fans to the region to be cancelled for the second time.

Crowds of enthusiasts were expected to flock to Himley Hall on Sunday for an annual display celebrating the classic car.

But organisers of The British Mini Day say the ground is too waterlogged from recent rainfall.

It means the British Mini Club will lose thousands of pounds in revenue from the event, which would have seen visitors pay a £7 entry fee.

More than 500 cars would have been on display at the event and at least 70 stalls were booked. The event would have marked the 20th anniversary of the Mini celebrations at Himley Hall. It had to be called off in May after days of heavy rain.

Organiser David Hollis, 45, from Brierley Hill, said: "There is a considerable amount of rain forecast for the next few days and just by walking on the ground we could see how sodden it was - there's no way we could have got all those vehicles on there.

"The people at Himley Hall let us re-arrange it for July because we have been coming here for so long. To be cancelling this in July when you would expect to have much better weather is a real blow."

An event called Mini Fest will be held at Uttoxeter Racecourse on September 2.
