A man today described the chilling moment he heard the screams of a murder victim as police continued to interrogate four men over the killing.
A large area of Willenhall remained cordoned off overnight after the body of a man was found on parkland between Villiers Street and St Anne's Road in the early hours yesterday.
Four men were continuing to help police with their inquiries today. A post mortem was being carried out today, and the victim's identity is expected to be revealed later.
A resident in nearby Temple Road said he dialled 999 after hearing a disturbance behind his home.
"I remember hearing a scream just after 12. I called the police, and they said someone else had called it in too," the man, who did not want to be named, said.
"When my wife got up in the morning, she told me about the police tent. I guess the scream I heard was the guy who was murdered.
"It's all anyone has been talking about here."
The man was found dead at the scene, known locally as The Summers, at 12.30am yesterday. Forensic officers have been combing the area searching for clues.
Rumours circulating among residents are suggesting that the victim was stabbed but police have declined to comment on the speculation.
Neighbours living nearby told of their shock.
Kyley Harvey, aged 25, of Borrow Street, said: "I was just on my way to work when I heard. It's not a bad area – the reputation is worse than it is. I would imagine most people are surprised to hear about this. I am just really shocked."
Lee Page, spokesman for West Midlands Police, said: "The death is being treated as suspicious, and an investigation has been launched."
Anyone with information is asked to call Force CID in Bloxwich on 101.
