Adam Chambers today insisted boss Dean Smith is a winner and backed Walsall to start where they left off.
The midfielder reckons his new manager can inspire the Saddlers to build on last season's Great Escape.
Chambers is likely to start tonight's final Scottish tour game at Gretna (7.30pm) after coming off the bench to score in Wednesday's 2-0 win at Greenock Morton.
And the former Albion man insisted Smith is can harness the Saddlers' potential when the season starts on August 6 against Leyton Orient.
"He's got that winning mentality about him and so far he's had a good start to his managerial career, so hopefully it continues," he said.
"I kept an eye on Walsall last season when the gaffer took over and some of the results we saw coming in were ridiculous. I don't think anyone gave them a chance so what he did was unbelievable. Hopefully we can carry that on into the new season."
