?Shots were fired during a party at a Black Country bar, seriously injuring two men, leaving one in a critical condition in hospital today.

The men were at a party at a Smethwick bar when a fight broke out.

Shots were fired in and outside Vietnam Bar in Wellington Street, police said.

The men, both suffering gunshot wounds, went to two different hospitals in the area.

A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition, while a second man, aged 31, is in a stable condition with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

Police were called at 4am yesterday, after the shots were heard.

The area was cordoned off with police tape while forensic examinations were carried out. CCTV is now being examined.

The area around the pub remained taped off today.

Detective Inspector Tom Chisholm said: "Many people are believed to have attended this party. However, they left the bar before police arrived at the scene.

"We are very keen to speak to anyone who was present at the party.

"At this stage it is too early to speculate on the reasons for this incident."

No-one was at the bar this morning.

Tina Phillips who lives in nearby Murdock Road, said: "Unfortunately we are used to this."
