It happened on the northbound carriageway of the M5 near Worcester at around 8.30pm last night.
Both victims, who have not yet been named by police, were travelling in the back of a Vauxhall Astra which collided with an articulated lorry near to Junction 6.
Three others travelling in the car, including the driver, were also injured but were all out of the car by the time paramedics arrived.
