A Black Country hospital receptionist became the 29th player to walk away with just 1p on TV gameshow Deal or No Deal.

The worker at Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital, Bel, appeared on the show last night and had high hopes at the start saying "I'm going to win big."

But a run of bad luck meant the mother-of-three nicknamed Miss Doom and Gloom ended up with a penny after turning down the chance to win £6,500.

Belinda Williams was the contestant selected at random after host Noel Edmonds introduced the show saying he had a feeling the boxes would be lucky this time adding "the biggest disappointment would be to have fantastic boxes and a fearful player."

She whooped with delight when her name was picked.

In the audience was husband Nigel whom she will have been married to for 20 years in March.

She told the audience they had been childhood sweethearts.

Edmonds introduced Bel as a reception supervisor asking her where Russells Hall Hospital was and referring to the town of Dudley in a Black Country accent and revealing his father's name was Dudley.

Bel had taken a photograph of her family with her and proudly talked about her sons Ash, an electrician, Haydn,16, and Rhys, 12, describing them as "the apple of my eye."

Players also bring along a good luck charm and Bel had taken her grandfather's bible.

Bel brought over box number 10 and she said this was her lucky number.

She also brought a homemade box to the table with the number eight on the front which she chose because it reminded her of her shape.

She said: "I wanted to be legs 11 but I'm more like an eight."

Her strategy was to pick numbers relevant to her family but by the fourth round Edmonds said she was a having a "rotten" game.
