A Black Country man who died after a dispute over a moped was set to marry the following week, an inquest heard.

William Dawson, aged 55, of Beech Road, Wednesbury, died of a heart attack on September 5, just hours after an altercation in Kent Road.

Black Country Coroner Robin Balmain revealed the wedding plans as he opened and adjourned the inquest on Mr Dawson yesterday.

Det Supt Mark Bowman said: "On September 4, shortly before 11pm, Mr Dawson and his stepson Michael were searching for Michael's moped which had been stolen earlier.

"They found the moped which two youths attempted to push away.

"He intervened and prevented them. Unfortunately, during this, he fell. The two youths made off.

"Shortly afterwards, Mr Dawson complained of feeling unwell."
