Visitors to Worcestershire County Museum, based in the grounds of Hartlebury Castle, were transported back in time to 1646 when the village was one of the most important sites in Worcestershire during the conflict.

The Discover History team re-enacted the lives of a garrison of soldiers at Hartlebury giving people the chance to see what their living conditions would have been like as well as the more luxurious officer's accommodation. Families visiting the attraction yesterday also saw what soldiers ate, how their rations were cooked and how they amused themselves while waiting for the enemy to attack.

They had the opportunity to wear 17th century body armour and handle weapons.

Visitor services officer Rachel Robinson said: "We had more than 600 people through the doors over two days so it was very successful and everybody seemed to have a good time. We had a camp outside the front of the castle with the garrison of soldiers."

Children's activities are taking place at the museum all week. Call 01299 250416.
