£3m will be spent on paths

Potholed pavements and crumbling footpaths in the Wyre Forest district are to be repaired, thanks to an extra £3 million being set aside for their maintenance.

The money is being allocated for schemes across Worcestershire after a report to the county council showed that "urgent action" was needed to improve roadside pavements and footways.

The report produced last year showed that roadside pathways were "among the worst in the country" and that budgets were not sufficient to even ensure they did not deteriorate even further.

The £3m boost will see repairs carried out to 37 miles of footways in main shopping centres, followed by work on 40 miles of pathways in busy town areas, and on 1,500 miles of footpaths in less used urban areas.

There will also be work on 12 miles of pathways outside towns and along 310 miles of footways around villages.
