Numbers up at historic attraction
A tourist attraction near Stafford enjoyed a 44 per cent increase in visitor numbers over the Easter weekend compared to 2008, it was revealed today.

Staff at the Shugborough Estate believe the rise is thanks to a raft of competitive ticket promotions which are appealing to price-conscious families looking for a value-for-money day out.
Spokeswomaan Corinne Caddy said: "We have deliberately kept our annual season passes at a low price to attract more people to enjoy the benefits of the Shugborough right through the year. These start from as little as £5.50 and a whole family can visit time and again in 2009 for £45.
"In addition we have circulated a large number of two-for-one offers and we are promoting our gardens only and late entry tickets for those who want to experience the beauty of the estate on a limited timescale. We are also continuing our senior citizen discounts on Mondays which not only give pensioners half price entry to the estate but also offer a 20 per cent discount in the tearoom."
The working estate is hoping the Easter school holidays continue to be busy as storytimes, craft activities, quizzes and egg hunts take place daily at the farm and servants' quarters alongside regular daily activities such as milling, baking, cheese-making and train rides.
The new Patrick Lichfield exhibition, Fame, Fashion and Fast Cars is also proving a popular attraction in the mansion house along with the 2009 opening up of the Red Drawing Room.
On the weekend of April 25 and 26, Shugborough will be hosting a food and drink festival featuring celebrity chef Richard Fox. The show also features beer tasting, wine tasting targeted at beginners and experts and tips on how to enjoy good quality wine on a budget. There will also be a children's cookery school along with a host of exhibitors selling fine quality produce.
