Highway chiefs have apologised after parts of Kidderminster became choked with traffic while a main commuter route was closed for resurfacing work.
The repairs in The Horsefair area of the town left many motorists fuming as they became trapped in traffic jams for more than half an hour at a time.
Vehicles were diverted along Radford Avenue and onto the Birmingham Road when work began yesterday.
But drivers found themselves forced to weave between parked cars as they followed diversions along Radford Avenue which was reduced to a single track in places.
Councillors said the work should have taken place on a Sunday.
Today Highways Manager John Fraser said: "The diversions are well-signed. We apologise for any delays caused but the work has to be carried out."
