Almost a third of pubs and clubs in the Kidderminster area have been breaching licensing conditions, it was revealed today.

Police carried out checks at 23 premises, mainly on the outskirts of the town, on April 3 and results released today show that eight were in breach of their licences.

In some cases licences were not displayed and CCTV systems were either not working or not fitted.

There were also two breaches of the no-smoking regulations and these have been reported to Wyre Forest District Council.

Licensing officer Pc Rich Drewett said the eight premises would be sent letters advising them of the breaches. He added: "We hope this operation sends a clear message that the police do visit premises to carry out checks to prevent crime and disorder, to protect children from harm, public nuisance and to ensure public safety."
