A £1.5 million training centre for electricians and plumbers has opened on the outskirts of Kidderminster, creating 50 jobs.

The purpose-built centre at Hartlebury Trading Estate, near Kidderminster, has been opened by Access2 Trade Careers.

It can cater for 120 students at any time and offers them access to training for City and Guilds accreditation which is recognised across the world.

Individual plumbing and electrical bays are fitted with the latest professional tools and equipment and students learn practical skills gaining hands-on experience in simulated real-life situations such as plumbing a bathroom or rewiring a house.

Marcia Blackwood, careers develop advisor at the centre, said: "We are already getting lots of interest in courses. Despite the economic downturn, or perhaps because of it. We are also attracting skilled tradesmen and women looking to gain formal qualifications and additional skills."
