Unemployed young people are to be recruited across the Wyre Forest district to help provide children's services and enable them to acquire work skills, thanks to a grant of £284,566.
The money has been awarded by v, the youth volunteering organisation, and Worcestershire County Council plans to recruit 30 volunteers, aged between 16 to 25, during the next two years.
They will help in youth work, nursery and play schemes including those for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Older volunteers will also be able to work in youth offending services, substance misuse work and educational welfare.
More than a quarter of the initial volunteers will be out-of-work youngsters and this number will rise to as many as 50 per cent during the second year.
Councillor Liz Eyre, Worcestershire County Council's lead member for Children's Services, said: "We are delighted to receive this grant to support dedicated young people willing to give up their time to help the community in which they live.
"I urge as many young people as possible to take up this opportunity to make a different to children and young people's services. It is a great way to gain training and a qualification."
