Ambitious plans to breathe new life into a former Kidderminster sports ground with new hotel and leisure facilities have been put forward.

The scheme proposed by Victoria Carpets Limited would see a hotel, public house and restaurant, indoor and outdoor bowling green as well as car parking developed on the former company's Victoria Sports Field at Spennells Valley Road in Kidderminster.

The land has lain idle for about five years since the merger and relocation of the club.

The proposals would include a transformation of the land to include a hotel as well as a new sports centre for Chester Road Bowling Club.

But so far no application has been submitted for proposed development on land where the bowling club currently stands at Chester Road.

Wyre Forest District Council is keen to see hotel developments as part of a move to persuade tourists to linger longer in the area.

More than 500,000 people visit the West Midland Safari Park at Bewdley every year and more than 250,000 hop on board the Severn Valley Railway.

People are now being asked for their views on the application and consultations end on January 28.
