Traders have lost a fight to prevent fast-food restaurant KFC opening a new branch in Kidderminster. The plan to open the restaurant in Comberton Hill was given the go-ahead last night.
Mr Robert Davies, owner of an insurance company nearby, objected to problems of litter and anti-social behaviour he felt might result from the opening of another takeaway.
He said he also represented other smaller takeaways in the area which might be forced out of business by the extra competition.
But members of Wyre Forest District Council's planning development control committee welcomed the restaurant and takeaway to the town.
Mr Michael Simms, representing the company, said Comberton Hill had "a vital role to play as a gateway to the town".
He said although many takeaways closed during the day, KFC would be open from breakfast to the time of the last train at about midnight.
Mr Simms also said that the company would ensure litter was cleared from around the restaurant.
Councillor Chris Nicholls said that he "welcomed KFC coming to town but was not sure that this was the right location".
However, Kidderminster's Town Mayor councillor Marcus Hart urged members to approve the application.
