Food store giant Aldi wants to open a new budget supermarket on the famous Goodyear factory site in Wolverhampton.

The Stafford Road site is being redeveloped into a new £150 million housing and leisure facility.

And the new store, which would be 2,019 sq m and have 93 parking spaces, would sit inside what the council calls a "neighbourhood centre" with four other smaller retail units.

Aldi's move has been revealed in a report by consultants White Young Green who say a food store is ideal for the site.

The report is report due to go before the city council's planning committee by the end of the year.

It says the north of Wolverhampton is "relatively poorly served" by food stores.
