One of the oldest pubs in the West Midlands has become the latest to close.

The Rising Sun, Brownhills, has been boarded up and there is now uncertainty over its future. There has been a pub on its Watling Street site since 1769.

The pub was formerly owned by Marstons but was sold earlier this year to a Walsall businessman.

Walsall Council said the new owner was Eastern Leisure (Rising Sun Ltd) based in Pleck. Brownhills ward representative Councillor Alan Paul said he was hopeful the spot would be reopening soon.

"I have been led to believe The Rising Sun is going to be refurbished and re-opened in the near future.

"We can't afford to lose any more pubs and this one in particular is part of the heritage of the town. It is marked on all the old maps.

"It would be a shame to lose it."
